PARMENIDES Showcases Energy Community Innovations at IREDonline

On June 24, the PARMENIDES project proudly took part in the IREDonline conference, one of the leading platforms for sharing progress on the future of distributed energy systems. As a sponsor of the event, PARMENIDES was in the spotlight, presenting concrete steps toward making energy communities smarter, more flexible, and grid-friendly.

Mark Stefan from the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, who serves as the PARMENIDES project coordinator, introduced the PARMENIDES Energy Community Ontology (PECO). This ontology is designed to be the backbone of the next generation of Energy Management Systems, enabling them to be interoperable, transferable, and scalable. It’s a vital component for ensuring that energy communities can adapt to different contexts and grow sustainably.

The presentation also highlighted progress in the Austrian pilot sites. All preparations have been finalized, and the software is now deployed and operating in open-loop mode. These pilots are demonstrating how community-based energy solutions can effectively contribute to local grid stability while promoting renewable integration.

Participating in IREDonline provided a valuable opportunity to connect with energy experts and innovators across Europe. PARMENIDES continues to build bridges between research and real-world impact, and we’re excited to share these advances as we move toward full implementation.

Stay tuned for more updates as we head into the final phase of the project.
